Biography

Yetunde Akins, MD, MPH, FAPA is a psychiatrist whose special interest is in Community psychiatry. She is board-certified in Adult, Child and Adolescent psychiatry and provides psychiatry care for all ages. She is a fellow of the American Psychiatry Association and a recipient of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) Minority fellowship award.

Dr. Akins completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from University of Jos, Nigeria. She obtained a Master of Public Health from George Washington University. Prior to residency training, she worked as a senior clinical research associate at The John Hopkins Medical Institution. During her tenure at John Hopkins University, she discovered her passion for the behavioral health field and attended Meharry Medical College, in Nashville, TN where she was the chief-resident in her final year. She furthered her medical training by attending University of Maryland for her fellowship in Child & Adolescent psychiatry.

Dr. Akins joined Sky Lakes Behavioral Health Center, as the founding psychiatrist and is currently the medical director. Prior to that she worked at local community mental in Klamath Falls as their Medical Director.
Dr. Akins is also a clinical assistant professor for Oregon Health & Sciences, department of psychiatry where she trains and supervises nurse practitioners, residents, and medical students in behavioral health medicine.
Dr. Akins has been recognized for her accomplishments by the American Psychiatry Association. Dr Akins professional affiliations include American Psychiatry Association (APA), American Academic of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), American Association for community psychiatrist.
In her free time, she enjoys traveling and reading.
