About the guidelines
The NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines) detail the sequential management decisions and interventions that currently apply to 97 percent of cancers affecting patients in the United States. Beyond the United States, the NCCN guidelines are used around the world taking into account the resources available to certain regions.
The guidelines are researched, developed, vetted, and updated on a regular basis by 61 individual panels and 1,700 clinicians and oncology researchers from the 33 NCCN member institutions. For each of the over 50 cancer types that the NCCN provides guidelines for, there is a wealth of information including the NCCN guidelines for providers, Evidence Blocks, Frameworks, Guidelines for Patients, Educational Events and Programs, and even International Translations.
For example, the Breast Cancer Guidelines are 256 pages with the latest version 5 updated on December 5, 2023 just shy of a couple weeks before writing this article, which highlights how frequently these guidelines are being reviewed to be kept current and up-to-date.
If you’re interested in reviewing the guidelines, then you can create an account here:https://www.nccn.org/register. All of the information is free, but the NCCN does require you to register to access it.
