Sky Lakes presents first BEE Award

Category

Tavo, a CNA-2 on the Progressive-Care Unit and six-year Sky Lakes employee, is the first-ever Sky Lakes BEE Award honoree.

The BEE Award recognizes non-nurse care team members for their “extraordinary, compassionate and skillful care to help make a difference in the lives of our patients” and is based on nominations from patients, families and colleagues. The award complements the DAISY Award for nurses.

“Just as the daisy cannot survive without the bee, nurses cannot survive without the outstanding teamwork provided by other colleagues,” the BEE Award nomination form reads.

Nurses, nurse aides, and non-clinical staff comprise the employee team that reviewed dozens of nominations (the nominees’ names were removed) and selected Tavo’s for the first award.

“He made me feel like a person and not just a patient,” the nomination reads. “I thank him for his kindness and compassion.”

Honorees receive a custom-made certificate, a special lapel pin, and a unique stainless steel beverage bottle. Nominees receive their own pins, and multiple nominees receive a hive-shaped pin.

DAISY Award and BEE Award nomination forms and collection boxes are scattered throughout the house. The awards are announced once a quarter.

The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the skillful, compassionate care nurses provide. The DAISY Award has been at Sky Lakes since 2017.
